About Me

Hi, and welcome to Your Digital Memories website. My name is Gavin and for a number of years, I have been interested in exploring the methods of transferring 8mm and 16mm cine file to digital format, in addition to the usual video, slide and negative transfer services.

When I looked around at the various methods of film transfer, it became evident that many people are in the dark as to how a transfer is actually made. It was also evident that up to 95% of the film transfer industry either project film using standard store bought film projectors and then video tape off the wall or via a mirror arrangement, resulting in a serious loss of quality from your original film.

The first thing you need to know about us is that we do not use old modified projectors for so-called frame-by-frame transfers. We do not use “off the wall “ transfer or similar methods involving rear-projection screens, transfer boxes, mirrors or a variety of other gadgets. Vintage film is precious, so our system minimises contact with the film and has no sprockets, claws, capstans or pinch rollers and NO image area contact!

We only use a 100% flicker-free, true frame-by-frame capture, continuous feed, high definition equipment.

We can produce HD or SD files that are iTunes compatible, so that BluRay or DVDs can be made on your own Mac or PC. We can even output codec-free, numbered images for you that can be imported into many computer software programs for editing at a later date!

There are a number of so-called “experts” out there who claim to be able carry out a HD transfer of your precious 8mm and 16mm movie memories to DVD or other digital media.  In reality, you will find that many of these operators use “real time” or “off the wall” methods of transfer and use a HD camcorder to film the image!
